10,000 Mile Update... Things I Don't Like

Thank you! I got my 2024 XSE Hybrid in January, and I agree with you on many points. While this car is good, it’s far from perfect.

  • Yes, the kick to open is painful and takes a few tries. I’ve found the faster the kick, the more likely it works but not guaranteed.

  • I’ve had no issues with the seat programming. As long as the car is on and you press and hold the button until it beeps.

  • I’ve had the same problem with the exterior door lock. The colder it is, the more likely it fails. I switched from Honda, and I really miss the walk-away lock feature.

  • You should have upgraded to the digital rearview mirror; it’s awesome! No glare issues and no adjustment needed!

  • Bluetooth itself is fine, and I’ve never had a connection problem. Wireless Android Auto is odd. Might work for three weeks straight, then start not connecting until I have the car try again, and eventually not connect until I reboot my phone. Never had this problem with previous wireless AA. The built-in nav isn’t to my liking. My work phone is an iPhone, and CarPlay looks like it was designed by kindergarteners! So cheesy! But it connects.

Squeaking parking brake when turning the vehicle off.

I love the keyless feature on mine. Works all the time opening or closing. My phone auto-connects with Android Auto 97% of the time. I rarely use the radio—always my music or podcasts on Spotify.

I don’t have the automatic liftgate, but I’ve seen enough complaints about it being slow, so I don’t mind.

I have a 2024 Hybrid XLE that I purchased new in May. Can someone tell me if the front passenger seat should recline all the way back? The driver’s side does, but the passenger side won’t. I’m taking it in for 5k maintenance on Wednesday and will bring that up. It seems odd that the passenger can’t fully recline, but the driver can!

For me, the rearview mirror is weird. As someone over 6 feet tall, I can’t angle it up high enough to see out the back window without crouching a bit. My older RAV4’s mirror had a full range of motion, and the car felt less cramped in general.

I have minor gripes after 14 months and 17k miles, but aside from the stiff rearview mirror, I haven’t had any of the other issues listed. Mine are things like the cup holder design and the nearly useless charge pad.

I watched a ton of videos before getting my XSE last year, so I knew more about the features than the dealership did.

To lock, you need to touch the sensor with two fingers on one side or one finger on top and one on the bottom. It’s in the manual. Just briefly touching the sensor with one finger won’t work.

I have a Pixel 6 Pro and have no issues with the car connecting to it. Once in a while, it doesn’t.

All of those features work really well on my RAV4.

Wait, the 2024 XSE has the kick-activated hatch lift?

Mine doesn’t. I have a 2024 Hybrid XSE.

I have it on my '23, but I have the tech package.

If it has the tech package, yes.

If you have these issues, take the vehicle to the dealer. Also, it’s possible you got a lemon. Do you have any ‘lemon laws’ where you are?
