$10,900 for a 2016 Toyota Camry SE with Special Edition Package in Central Jersey… is this a good deal?

I really need a new car fast because I can’t keep depending on my husband to drive me and my daughter to school every day (I’m a teacher). My old Hyundai Tiburon broke down yesterday. I was thinking about getting a 2018 Sonata, but after hearing about their engine problems, I got worried.

The car I’m looking at has 131k miles on it, and we live in Central NJ, where everything is overpriced. We’re paying cash and trying to haggle down to $9,900 (KBB value). We want to buy quickly, though. What do you all think?

11k for a Camry with 131k miles? Sounds good if it has a clean Carfax.

If you keep up with oil changes and maintenance, it should easily go another 250-300k miles.

Also, why doesn’t your daughter take the bus to school if you need more time to save up some extra cash?

@Gray
Our school district doesn’t offer bussing, and she’s in both before and after care.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, that sounds like a good price.

That price seems pretty average for those Camrys. You should get a mechanical inspection, but there’s really not much wrong with that generation. The only thing to watch out for is possible oil consumption, depending on the service history, but aside from that, the engine should run forever.

I had a 2015 Camry with 225,000 miles on it when I traded it in two years ago. Even with that many miles, all I did was oil changes and brakes.

The 2016 model should be just as reliable for another 100k miles, so that price seems reasonable.

Considering how crazy used car prices are these days, this seems like a reasonable price. But just because it’s a Camry doesn’t mean it’s in perfect condition, so make sure to get a thorough pre-purchase inspection.
