Did you check the oil at all in those 9 months?

Subaru owners gotta check oil every time they fill up gas…

I usually check before and after highway drives. Oil level looked fine, but yeah, it was overdue for a change.
Blue smoke usually means burning oil. Could be a bad PCV valve, piston rings, or valve seals. That’s probably what led to the engine blowing.
If you want to fix it, maybe look for a used engine or a performance shop that does rebuilds.
@Christie
Dealership wanted 15k for a new engine. My local mechanic says he can fix it for 7-9k, so I’m going with that.

15k is insane. You could get a rebuilt one for way less. Your mechanic probably knows someone who can get one cheaper.
@Sutton
Yeah, we’re going to fix it and sell the car. Gonna miss my Forester, but I don’t want to deal with another major repair down the road.
How reliable have the 2019 models been? Thinking about upgrading soon.
Man… I have a 2015 XT and now I’m nervous.

My advice—change your oil every 6 months and check the level often. And don’t push it too hard for too long. Learned that the hard way…
