When I first got my 2019 RAV4 hybrid, I was getting about 40 MPG. After switching to all-weather tires, it dropped to around 38. Over the last year, it kept getting worse—down to under 30 MPG. I tried a fuel injector cleaning, which helped a little, but not much. I asked around here and got a few ideas, but nothing fixed it.
Then I found out about a Toyota service bulletin for the high-pressure fuel pump. The coverage was recently extended to 2029. I told the dealer I sometimes smelled fuel in the cabin (not really true, but my wife thought she smelled it once). They approved the fix, ordered the part, and replaced it. Right after, my mileage shot back up to 38 MPG, even with mixed driving.
[Edit: Looks like this affects 2019-2022 models and maybe other hybrids too.]
Someone should tell that person who said their hybrid got the same mileage as a gas model. My girlfriend’s ‘25 RAV4 gets 44 MPG, but she drives super slow. Meanwhile, I’ve got a diesel A3 and a lead foot.
