I’ve recently discovered the remote start feature if you triple tap and hold the lock button.
Last night I logged into the Toyota app to check for recall updates and I was required to consent or decline to tracking. I declined, it let me login and check for recalls, etc…
This morning, like the last two months, I tried to remote start doing the triple tap method and it did not work. I tried 10 times.
Did Toyota disable this feature when I declined tracking?
When I opened the app, I opted to ‘decline’ just as you did and the remote start via key fob stopped working. I didn’t put the two together at first but after I called the local dealership, they referred me to the corporate phone number. Long story short, the representative told me ‘that’s just how it is.’
When you declined, it declines every data collection option. You can turn on a couple of the options to get the remote start working again. For example, I accepted Master Consent and Service Communication. I declined Drive Pule and Insure Connect. You have to accept Master Consent in order to accept or decline the other three options.
This has been my one and only complaint about the truck…the remote start is awful. Mo’ tech Mo’ problems.

I would echo this. I can only remote start my truck if I’m close enough I could basically spit on it, and the fact it shuts off as soon as I open the door and have to restart it is ridiculous.
@Leif
So I went in the app and found the consent form and accepted master and service consent forms. When I restarted the truck there was a ‘Communication module activated’ voice came from the speakers.
2024 limited here, I declined the software tracking stuff too. Remote start with the key fob still works. The key fob just sucks, it’s weak and the triple click has never been reliable.
Try lock, wait 2 seconds, then lock, lock, lock with a hold until the taillights flash and the engine starts.
When you press the lock sequence it has to be consistent and deliberate.
I usually say in my mind the word ‘lock’ between the lock presses.
@Cedar
The app is tied to the truck… not allowing location services for one turns it off for the other. The fob is programmed to the truck. The fob has to tell its location somehow.
You have to be in range of the truck to use the RF lock/unlock. You are simply using the lock button over RF, the signal does not come down from a satellite. Or maybe it pings a SAT once you press the button, who knows.
