70 series

Hello all, I live in Japan currently and have one kid with no plans on more in the near future. I really want a 70 series. For context, I worked as a mechanic and do all the work on my cars. The only thing I’m worried about is finding parts for it in the States.

You can find parts. Just be prepared to get a lot of them from UAE, Australia, or Japan.

I was planning to stockpile wear items and keep one or two of each big ticket item that wear out eventually. And buy a parts motor or even look into swapping a more modern diesel motor into it eventually. Really I’m worried about finding glass if I end up needing it in the future.

You cannot import a vehicle to the US that’s had an engine swap. Glass is around, still produced by Toyota. I ordered a new windshield for my FZJ75 from the dealer in the US. It’s not as hard as everyone makes it out to be.

Going to swap it after I get back to the States, not here.

Gonna cost you more in shipping than just getting one here in the States but ok :man_shrugging:t2:

The shipping will be on Uncle Sam’s dime.

Good luck shipping an engine in your HHG. You cannot have spare parts or anything in a vehicle you import.

The engine I want to swap to in the States is not a JDM motor. I’m not trying to bring an extra engine back with me.

You literally said you were thinking of buying a parts motor. Whatever engine you go with an OEM Toyota will be your best bet. Just realize the difficulty in swapping in certain engines on a narrow nose 70. Several R2.8 success stories though in 70s on mud.

The R2.8 is the motor I was thinking about putting in there.

That depends on the glass. Out of the four rear side windows for 73 and 74 cruisers, one piece is no longer made and cannot be found. But for more common models, there isn’t a problem.

I have looked at a couple imports. It’s expensive as hell to get it shipped to the States, but most basic maintenance stuff if it’s a diesel would have to order online. But if you’re going for gas, you can most likely get it at any auto parts store.

The shipping will be free for me.

Very cool, might just be Alaska but no more excuses, buy one.
