I recently had to disconnect my car battery to fix a few things under the hood, and I noticed that my radio presets and clock reset. I heard about these automotive memory savers that could keep settings intact during such times. Has anyone used one before? Do they really work, or is it just a gimmick?

I don’t believe it is required. After replacing the battery on many new cars, the dealer procedure probably involves resetting the battery monitoring system.

Simply connect the old car battery to the car’s terminal using a jumper cord if it still has a little amount of charge, then carefully lower the new battery in and presto! Otherwise, why not just switch it out, except from the radio settings?
