Saw this online and had to share… this side-by-side cup holder setup is a total game-changer for keeping the peace! No more arguing over which one gets the front holder.
I will never understand why they still make cup holders front-to-back. Side-by-side makes way more sense and gives more storage. Plus, who even needs that cup holder cover? Most of us have a drink with us 24/7 anyway. I think I closed that cover once just to see how it looked.
@Fane
I get it, the cover does add a nice “premium” look when closed, but I’d still rather have it side-by-side.

I looked into it… saw some downgrade install vids and checked the schematics, but there’s just no way to make my holders side-by-side and keep the cover. Guess it’s lucky my spouse doesn’t mind the front cup holder.
Might be cheaper to get a new truck than find a new spouse!

That kit has something to keep cups from tipping, unlike the factory one. Poor design on Toyota’s part!
I’m all about the rule that the driver picks first for the cup holder! Personally, I like the matte steel finish that AJT did, just wish it worked with the existing setup. No problem with the orientation of the current holders, and I actually like having the cover to hide them when not in use (even if that’s not popular).
@eucabeth
Yeah, the cover is nice. Would be ideal to have both side-by-side holders and a cover, but that’s just wishful thinking.
Got a link to that kit?

Pretty sure it’s this one: https://www.ajtdesign-llc.com/online-store/Cup-Holder-Downgrade-Kit-2022-Tundra-p640109263
What? Driver always gets the front cup holder! It’s like the rules of the road: shotgun gets front seat, driver gets first choice of cup holder and music. But on a real note, making the driver side cup holder higher than the passenger one seems off. Maybe it’s easier to grab, but taller cups definitely aren’t stable in it.
@Zinnia
Strongly disagree—driver should get the back cup holder! I don’t want to dodge someone else’s cup when reaching for my own. If I need to put my drink down quickly, the last thing I want is an obstacle in my way. But totally agree with you on the other part.
@eucabeth
Exactly!
@Zinnia
I ended up buying the “Cup Grip” insert so now taller cups stay put better. Definitely fixes the design flaw.

Cup Grip is the best!
Got one for the back seat too.
