It seems like there’s always a discussion on this topic every year. I couldn’t find much online, but I’m pretty sure it’s 25 bags for '24. There’s actually more space, maybe 34-35 bags without moving up the seats. Just thought I’d share this info for anyone planning a mulch haul
@Harlow
I’ve got more fun with mulch than cement for sure. Hope your project is turning out great

By the way, mulch is on sale right now for $2.50 each

Thanks! I’m actually building a super strong fence for my garden. The deer figured out how to get through my netting. Using cemented posts and a strong mesh, plus I have a friend who’s a welder to make a steel gate. Gotta protect my veggies
This is how it feels after packing 12 bags of mulch into my Outback

That’s a solid point. Thanks for the heads up. I’ll be more careful when loading my car in the future
No big deal, just trying to keep us all safe
@Zia
Honestly, mulch is way better than cement any day
@Harlow
Sure looks like concrete
I’ve noticed plenty of people here showcasing impressively organized, smartly packed loads in their outbacks. Not me—I’m here to mess that up. I skipped the tarp, thinking cleanup would be a breeze. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. Mud got everywhere, and it was a disaster (lol)

That terrible felt stuff on the side walls must have been a pain to clean up

I’ll tell you if I can ever get it out of the side walls, back of the chairs, and the headrests… Don’t decide things when you’re sleep deprived
@Sutton
LOL good thing it’s a subaru

Honestly, just go for it. I always stick my Christmas tree in the back instead of on the roof every year. Every time I vacuum, I find pine needles and still can’t get that sap stain off the back seat from two Christmases ago
@Sunny
Same here, still finding hay from last season. I wish I had grabbed some tarps or something to keep it from getting worse

I was thinking of it for reaching my roof-mounted cargo
