Anyone else happy with how little gas your hybrid uses?

Filled up the tank 2 weeks ago and been driving every day… it’s still above 3/4 full. Loving it.

I got 4.3 the other day. Rolling up slowly to every stop really helps save gas.

That’s great. I think the hills around my area make a difference too. I go through a valley every day for work so I’m just glad I’m still getting good numbers.

@Tenzin
Yeah, I had a 4km flat stretch with only one stop sign. I usually get around 5.7 when I’m driving around town.

@Alden
Nice! How did you get it that low? Is that one of the plug-in ones?

Nice, what’s the trick to getting your numbers that low? Is that a plug-in version?

Just a 2023 Limited Hybrid. Best tip is to drive slow and smooth. Coast early when you see a stop sign ahead. I get up to the speed limit a little quick, then let it switch to EV and coast along.

It’s probably the warmer weather too. These hybrids seem to get way better mileage when it’s warm. Every spring, people say they’ve ‘figured it out’ and suddenly get way better mileage. Then winter comes and they wonder why their numbers drop again, haha.

@Thayer
Yeah I know what you mean. I bought mine in mid December and I’m up north, so I had a lot of -20 to -40 days. The EV mode barely kicked in during those times.

You could get even better numbers. And by the way, for some reason ‘normal’ mode seems to be more efficient than ‘eco’. Maybe give that a try?

I read that eco mode uses EV more, so not sure why normal would be better. Isn’t normal mode more aggressive on acceleration too?

@Tenzin
The modes just change how the gas pedal feels. If you hit the gas hard in eco, it’ll still burn a lot. Light pressure in sport mode could use less fuel than flooring it in eco.

So eco just helps you avoid hitting the gas too hard. That might explain why some people think normal gives better mileage. The EV switch feels kind of random too, like it just does its own thing.

@Tenzin
Yeah, the mode doesn’t really change when it goes into EV. I think people end up pushing the pedal more in eco mode without realizing it, which actually hurts their mileage.

EV mode mostly kicks in based on how fast you’re going and how light you’re pressing the gas. Under 20 MPH, you’re more likely to stay in EV. At higher speeds, you can still switch to EV if you let off the gas after getting to speed.

@Perrin
Yeah, that has nothing to do with eco mode though.

True. Far as I can tell, the modes just make the gas pedal feel different and maybe change how strong the engine slows the car down.

@Perrin
That engine slowing feature is only for the Prime version. In a normal hybrid, it’s just pedal feel. Some people say it changes power steering too but I didn’t notice it on mine.

I also heard it makes the climate control a bit weaker.
