Anyone tried sleeping on a twin air mattress in the back of an Outback? Does it fit?

Sleeping on a twin air mattress in the back of a Subaru Outback is definitely doable. Here’s what you should keep in mind:

Dimensions: The Outback’s cargo area is about 75 inches long and 42-43 inches wide, narrowing to 38 inches between the wheel wells. A standard twin mattress (75 inches long, 38 inches wide) should fit just right.

Headroom: The roof slopes slightly, so it might feel a little cramped, but it’s not a huge issue for sleeping.

Inflation: Make sure your air mattress isn’t too thick, or it might push you too close to the ceiling.

Ventilation: You can open the windows a bit for airflow. Use window covers to keep bugs out.

Tips: Test the mattress at home before your trip to make sure it fits. Bring a portable pump to inflate it at the campsite. Make sure the seats are folded down flat, and consider using a foam pad or blanket for extra comfort.

If the twin mattress doesn’t fit, you can always try a smaller mattress or a camping pad that fits the shape of the car.

A twin air mattress should work just fine for a cozy, cost-effective camping setup!

Uhhhh. AI?

I use the Exped Megamat 10 in the MW size (25 inches wide x 72 inches long), and it fits perfectly along the 60/40 split folding rear seats. A helpful tip: you can turn the headrests around to raise the mattress support at the front end.

I cut a full-size foam mattress to fit, and it works great. Just cut around the wheel wells. Super comfy.
