Just wrapped up a week with the 2024 Toyota GR86 Premium, and it was a mixed bag of fun and a few annoyances. Love the handling, but that interior… yikes. Anyone else driven it?
Yeah, I’ve driven one! The handling is super fun, especially in corners. How did you find the power? Enough grunt or still lacking?

Power’s decent for what it is. It’s no rocket, but it gets moving pretty well, especially compared to the old Scion days. You hit peak torque at 3,700 RPM, so it’s quick off the line.
@Alton
Nice, sounds like they’ve improved. Was it a manual or auto?
@Alton
Had the manual… it’s a bit notchy, but mostly a blast to shift.
So what’s the deal with the interior? You mentioned it’s outdated?

Yeah, the infotainment looks ancient unless you’re using CarPlay, and it’s wired, which is kinda annoying with no good spot for the phone. Screen’s also super small.
@Alton
Wired CarPlay in 2024? That’s a bummer. Seems like Toyota’s cutting corners there.
@Alton
Yeah, I feel like they really need to update that. It’s such a small thing but makes a big difference.
What’s the ride like? I’ve heard it’s pretty stiff.

Oh, it’s definitely stiff. Not surprising for a sports car though. You feel the bumps for sure, but it’s manageable.

Figures. I guess it’s the price you pay for that sporty handling.
How’s the backseat? Could it fit kids at least?

Honestly, the backseat’s basically decoration. Might work for little kids, but not much else. Adults won’t be happy back there.
@Alton
Good to know. Guess it’s really just a two-seater then.
I’ve been eyeing the GR86 as a fun weekend car. What’s the fuel economy like on this thing?

Not too bad for a sporty car, 20 mpg city, 26 highway, and 22 combined with the manual. You won’t win any eco awards, but it’s not terrible.
@Alton
That’s pretty decent, especially for something you just wanna take out for fun.
