Hey everyone, I just replaced a thermostat and front crankshaft oil seal on my 2000 Avalon. I ordered the parts from wholesale.moderntoyota.com. Now I totally get that parts may change over 25 years, but the oil seal was black instead of brownish, the thermostat looks different, and the seals for my timing belt covers were like cheap foam pieces. Are these even Toyota parts? Am I getting scammed or what?
You should definitely drop your VIN and the part numbers you got from the site. Helps to compare what’s what with the original parts.

Ah okay, will do that! Thanks for the tip!
You know, you’re comparing a fresh black oil seal to one that’s been in a 25-year-old car. They aren’t gonna match!

True, but still… the thermostat is just so different. Like, I have two Avalons and the one I did two years ago looked nothing like this one.

Exactly! Thermostats have changed over the years. Plus, the timing cover seals may have just been updated, you know?
Not trying to badmouth where I got these parts. Just feeling a bit suspicious… when I call them, my phone says GM Wholesale or something similar.

What part numbers did you end up ordering then? That might help clear things up.
Honestly, as long as they’re functioning well for you, maybe it’s all chill. But also, check the made in label for sure.

Yeah, I think I will! Just kinda bummed the oil seal is made in China now instead of Japan. Thanks for replying!
Hey, random Q but how do I delete this thread? Is that even a thing?

You can’t. Why would you even want to do that?

Just let it be! You’re getting feedback, that’s what matters!
