My '09 Matrix was totaled after six years and 100K miles. I wouldn’t usually go for a car with 120K miles, but it was the only option I could afford from a dealership. While I regretted the decision during the process, I’ve grown to like it. The car drives well, only had one previous owner, and seems to have been well maintained. I plan to visit a mechanic soon to get it checked out. Are there specific parts or issues I should ask about for this model and year? It’s the base model with an inline-four engine.
I’d like to keep it for 3-4 years and then sell it. Does that seem realistic?
I’m driving a 2011 base AWD with 150K miles. No major issues here. The only unscheduled repair I’ve had was replacing the alternator at 140K. I also added aftermarket Bluetooth and a tow hitch. It’s been reliable with good gas mileage and plenty of space. You made a solid choice.

Thanks for sharing! The previous owner added a tow hitch to mine too. I like how it drives, and it feels similar to my old Matrix. I regret not researching more before buying, but I’m happy so far.
There’s nothing ‘stupid’ about this purchase. These are very reliable cars. I drove my ‘07 until it hit 200K miles and sold it to a friend who still loves it. With regular maintenance, you’ll get plenty of life out of yours.

Our family had a '98 Camry with 240,000 miles. It was reliable for decades. Toyotas are built to last!
That’s good to hear. I loved my Matrix, and I’m starting to feel the same way about the Rav4. I’ve noticed the 4WD/check engine light comes on after it rains, so I’ll have the mechanic check that out too.

How’s the car holding up? Would love an update.
Unfortunately, I was hit by a Silverado going 70 mph that ran a red light. I fractured my spine, but the Rav4 saved my life. It’s a tough vehicle, and I believe it could’ve made it to 200K miles without major issues if it weren’t for the crash.
