I just got a price for an XSE in Canada for $68k. Is this fair? Seems like prices are way higher elsewhere.
From what I’ve seen, that’s a pretty good deal. I’ve seen them going for $75k or more. How did you manage $68k?

I called around and got lucky. Someone cancelled their order, so I took it. It’s technically factory direct since the person cancelled. These markups are crazy though, like $75k or even more.
@Alton
Yeah, I’ve seen some go as high as $80k. $68k sounds great, especially if it’s out-the-door. Personally, I like the Odyssey better, but it doesn’t have AWD.

The Odyssey doesn’t hold its value as much, plus no hybrid option. I could get one under MSRP here, but I went with the Sienna instead.
@Alton
Makes sense. Go with what works best for you. How long did you have to wait for your Sienna?

I’ve been on a waitlist for 2.5 to 3 years with a local dealer and still no updates. But this one from a different dealership only took 2-3 months.
Why are cars so expensive in Canada compared to the US?

It’s mostly because of the currency exchange rate. We’re at about 0.6 to the US dollar, plus import fees and taxes are really high. After all those costs, it ends up being similar to US prices.
@Alton
Do you find that even with the taxes, you’re still getting a better deal than in the US?

Yeah, it’s cheaper here if you do the conversion. I’m in Canada, as the title says.
@Alton
If you do the conversion, the Sienna in Canada is actually cheaper. $68k CAD is around $48k USD, which is below the US MSRP for the XSE AWD.
We just bought an LE AWD in Ontario. I paid the MSRP, plus $1,930 for freight and PDI, and a $100 AC fee. The total came to $58k. We don’t have extra fees like a $499 document fee or finance fees here. One dealer tried to add $6,000 for things like VIN etching and warranties they said weren’t negotiable. It was such a turnoff.
@Shea
What do you even do when they say those fees aren’t negotiable? Feels like they have all the power, especially when Siennas are hard to find.

It’s super frustrating. I ended up going to Belleville Toyota, and they didn’t play those games. But they did say the wait could be up to 12 months. Hopefully, it’s faster for you.
We got ours for about $64,500. Seems like you’re getting a solid price.

Where are you located? Taxes seem to vary a lot depending on the province.
It sounds like a good deal. Crazy how the MSRP has jumped by $8,000 in just three years.

Was it really $46k three years ago?
