Charger Stowing in Prius 2023

I mistakenly took the slow charger (granny charger) out of its storage spot in the boot. Any tips on getting it neatly back in place? The polystyrene design doesn’t seem to fit the shape of the transformer and plug neatly, which is frustrating. Any pictures of it correctly stowed would be really helpful.

I coil it up and place it in the foam under the cargo liner. There’s a round spot with a peg in the middle that fits it well. The transformer goes into the bigger cutout at the bottom, and the plug end can wrap over the top to fit in snugly.

Was it originally stowed in the compartment when you got the car? I think mine was just in a plastic bag in the hatch area, but I’ve seen videos showing it under the boot floor. Maybe the garage put it there before delivery.

Mine was in the compartment originally, but it could have been the garage that stowed it before I saw it.

I tested putting it back, and it fits, though not as neatly as from the factory. It doesn’t interfere with the lid, though. I have a zippered case for another charger that fits nicely, so I might just use that and leave it in the compartment since I seldom use it.

What exactly is a ‘granny charger’?

It’s the slow charger that plugs into a regular wall socket for trickle charging. It came with the car.

Why do you carry it with you? Where do you usually charge your car?

@Page
I usually charge at home using my Zappi charger. It takes about four hours for a full charge. I hadn’t taken the granny charger out until now; it’s been sitting in the polystyrene compartment in the boot. I’ve heard removing the polystyrene increases road noise, so I’ve kept it in place.

@Flynt
I don’t carry mine in the car and haven’t noticed any extra road noise with it removed. Maybe try taking it out for a while and see if you notice a difference.

I was actually referring to the polystyrene insert, not the charger itself. Removing that might reduce noise insulation slightly.

@Flynt
On the Gen 4, there’s just a plastic compartment behind the battery, and it’s tough to fit the charger in there. I use it for travel supplies instead. Removing the polystyrene might reduce noise insulation a little, but it’s hard to say if you’d notice a real difference. Try taking it out for a few weeks and see if you notice anything.
