Corolla Cross 2024 Owners, any issues with start/stop?

Okay, so I have been reading a lot about the start/stop issue that many Corolla Cross owners have reported. It seems like most of the problems were with the 2022 and 2023 models.

Has anyone with a 2024 Cross, particularly the Hybrid, experienced the vehicle shutting down unexpectedly?

I’m about to finalize my deal, but all these issues are making me second-guess my decision. Would love to hear from actual owners.

No, the Hybrid has its own issue—Toyota put in a really weak 12V battery that can cause problems when the voltage drops. Sometimes you get a battery warning, sometimes you don’t.

Also, the 12V battery is in the trunk, and if you have the automatic liftgate, it’s behind a door that needs power to open. If the battery is dead, that’s a problem.

I think you can crawl through and release it from the inside, but I haven’t tried. Anyone know how to open the trunk without power?

You can get to the trunk by crawling back there, removing a small plastic panel, and pulling the release cable. I had to do this in my old Prius—probably the same for the Cross.

Oh, so that’s what that door is for. I thought it might be for the reverse bulbs.

That’s where a Noco Smart charger comes in handy.

Yep, exactly.

To jump the car, you do it from under the hood, even though the battery is in the trunk. The terminals are still under the hood—the negative terminal is on the right side behind the headlight, and the positive is on the left side of the engine.

You don’t need to crawl into the trunk unless your jumper cables are stored there. If you have an electric liftgate, keep your jumper cables under the front passenger seat. There’s actually a good amount of storage space there.

Stop/start works fine for me on my 2024 CC LE. No issues. I mostly do highway driving, though, so I don’t use it that often.

I haven’t had any issues. I don’t find the stop/start feature annoying either. I also drive a Prius, so I’m used to a car shutting off at a light. On the Cross, I have to push the brake pedal down further to activate it. If I shift my foot a bit, the car starts back up, but it’s not a big deal.

I have a 2023 CC L, and I haven’t had any issues. My brakes are still new enough that I can stop without the start/stop kicking in unless I press harder. I only let it engage when I know I’ll be sitting at a long light.
