New to using Toyota Safety Sense. I have a 2021 Camry XSE and started using cruise control, but the way it slows down when approaching stopped cars feels way too fast for my comfort. I haven’t let it go all the way to a stop yet because I don’t fully trust it. Is there a way to make it slow down earlier?
Check the manual, it might be adjustable.

Left the manual in my car. Easier to ask here.

You can find the manual online: Toyota Manuals and Warranties | Toyota Owners

Might be worth searching for an online version.
I think it’s fun letting the car stop itself. Feels risky but it always stops.

Until someone behind you isn’t paying attention and rear-ends you.

I haven’t tested it all the way yet. Still don’t trust it completely.
Try increasing the following distance and lowering your cruise speed.

Thanks. I already have it set to the max following distance. Is there a way to make it even longer? Also, if I slow down too much, won’t I just have to speed back up when the light changes? Seems easier to just tap the brakes and resume cruise control after.
You can adjust this in the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control settings. There’s also an option to change how fast it accelerates after slowing down.
I don’t fully trust smart cruise control in stop-and-go traffic. I only use it on highways when I want to rest my foot for long drives.

I’ve used it for hours on the highway, even in stop-and-go traffic, and it worked perfectly. Never had an issue.

I use cruise control almost all the time, even on smaller roads. The lane-keeping assist helps a lot.
@Jacob
Do I have lane tracing too, or is that only on newer models?

I need cruise control for stop-and-go traffic so I can check my emails on the way to work. If you drive the I-5 express lanes in the morning, you know what I mean.
Just wait until it slams on the brakes for a car that’s not even in your lane.

That has never happened to me.
