Dealer didn’t have oil in stock… is that normal?

Just grab a decent 0W-20 and be done with it. Doesn’t need to be this complicated lol.

Haha fair, just figured I’d knock it out at the dealer and avoid another stop.

I haven’t looked into Toyota’s oil much, but with Subaru, their branded oil is worse than most retail brands. I’ve run Mobil 1 for years and sent samples to Blackstone for testing—always came back clean.

Someone on the WRX forum did a full lab breakdown and found the name brands (Mobil, Pennzoil, Castrol, etc.) are all solid. And honestly, the 4Runner isn’t pushing oil nearly as hard as a WRX.

@EmilyWilson
Yeah I remember reading that Toyota oil had higher molybdenum levels than most other oils. Might be what helps with longevity.

It’s basically Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy. Just buy it at Walmart—$25 for a 5-quart jug.

Buy everything online. You can grab a 5-pack of OEM filters on Amazon for like $35 and a 10-pack of crush washers for around $14. Then all you need is oil when it’s time.

You can get genuine OEM filters and washers cheaper from a dealer’s website. I got mine for $4.14 per filter and $1.02 per washer during a 25% off promo. Free shipping over $75 too—it’s worth checking.

I’ll have to check that out. Those are OEM parts, right?

I use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum—works great for me. Hope that helps!

One time I went in for an oil change and they had to go buy the oil from NAPA :man_shrugging:
