Hey everyone… so my car got stolen last night. I had the keys in a faraday box and a steering lock on the wheel. How did they even do this?
I’m seriously confused. Checked my doorbell cam and didn’t see them break in through the driver door. Think they got in through the passenger side and drove off in minutes.
From what I’ve seen on other forums, maybe a canbus attack? But I thought the PHEV wasn’t vulnerable to that. Any ideas?
Canbus attack sounds fancy but it’s actually simple. They cracked Toyota’s security about a year ago. Break a window, plug into the security ECU, and done.

What’s a TSK vehicle?
On my cam there’s no sound of a window breaking… so how’d they get in?

Or they peel back the wheel well and plug into the headlight wiring.
Saw on another forum that thieves have updated tools to bypass the latest canbus protections. Only way to stop them now is an alarm that completely blocks the car from starting without the right key fob.
That’s rough… In Europe, the 2025 models have better alarms and double locking. If a window breaks or someone reaches in, the alarm goes off. Doors won’t open even from the inside. The key also has to be right next to the door to unlock it—no relay attacks. I added a tracker and an immobilizer with a satellite link. No extra remote, no start.
Hope your insurance covers it. What’s the Toyota app saying?
