I bought a 2024 Outback in May 2024, but I’ve noticed what seems like an excessive amount of rust on it. The thing is, I don’t even live in the rust belt.
They’re made of raw cast iron. They’ll rust almost instantly. But don’t worry, just drive about 25 feet and they’ll clean right up.

Wait… you actually use the brakes?

Right? I just throw it in reverse when I need to stop quick.

Exactly! Saves wear and tear on the brake pads.

Big brake companies hate this one simple trick…

Jokes aside, I use that stuff for every brake job. Makes things way easier and stops squeaking on my motorcycle brakes.

I was joking about the surface rust. I keep a jar of it too. Makes the next brake job smoother and keeps things quiet.
@Grey
Fair point. I can only imagine how many people saw the rotor on the bottle and just slathered it on.
@Grey
You can use that on the misses when you’re out of lube.
Totally normal. You’ll see this after rain or snow if you haven’t driven for a bit.

And on pretty much any standard car…

Sometimes it happens in just a few hours depending on the climate… Canada, eh?

Or after washing the car.

I’ve noticed more people asking this lately. I think it’s because most cars have disk brakes now, and they’re more visible through the wheels.
