Does my Camry have secret powers or something…?

From what you’re describing, I’d say your car’s just plain broken — in my very expert opinion, of course.

How often does this kind of thing happen to people?

Probably around 500,000 times a year. Unless you’re driving a Toyota… then it’s more like three. The person who posted this must be one of those unlucky few.

Did you try turning it off and back on again?

I had something like this with my 2019 SE in the winter. Turned out my pre-cat O2 sensor was bad, which made the car go into limp mode and mess with gear shifting. Got it replaced and it’s been fine for two years now.
Edit: Try scanning the car for codes with an OBD tool — most parts stores will let you use one.

Whoa, what year is your Camry? :open_mouth:

Looks like it’s from somewhere between 2018 and 2024.

Might be time to have a shop check it out. If the check engine light’s on, there’s definitely some codes being thrown.

Come on, it’s a Toyota — they run forever on just oil changes /s

Hopefully it’s not something with the transmission. Could be the car’s showing a hidden error screen or some diagnostic thing. Some electronics do that. Could’ve been a button combo you didn’t mean to press. Have you checked under the hood or under the car for damage? Hit anything recently? How old is it?

Ever try reseating the trunk latch? Just a thought.

Maybe one of the sensors is acting up?

How many miles on it? I had something similar when I shifted into reverse too fast after starting. Do you notice any shaking when accelerating at low RPM? If yes, your transmission fluid might be dirty. I fixed mine with 3 drain and fills.

I work on Toyotas — ever spill something down by the shifter? I’ve seen weird lights and issues like that when fluid leaks into the center console wiring.

Not a mechanic, but have you tried wiggling the warp drive a little?
