Does Toyota really have cheaper insurance?

I was exploring the Toyota app and discovered they offer insurance. The quote I got was the lowest I’ve ever seen. It’s $400 less per month than my current provider and beats any other quote I’ve had. This includes full coverage for two cars, and I used to pay over $700 a month.

I pay around $80 a month for full coverage on my Dodge Viper with USAA. My 2008 Prius costs just $17 a month. Honestly, your rate seems very high.

That’s higher than I pay for both home and auto with zero deductibles. Maybe the driving history or location plays a role.

@Poe
Location can definitely affect rates. Besides accidents, where you live is a major factor in pricing.

When I lived in Texas, I paid $180 a month for two vehicles. Moving to Colorado pushed it to over $500 a month. Same company, same coverage, different rates.

@Cairo
That checks out. I moved from Kentucky to Colorado, and my rates shot up from $120 to $440 monthly. Clean record, no tickets—it’s really about the state.

Is it just Denver, or does this apply everywhere in Colorado? I thought Texas had worse drivers.

@Amory
Colorado also has frequent hailstorms that destroy cars every year. That, plus location differences, makes premiums skyrocket.

As someone with 28 years on a USAA policy, I can confirm. If you add teen drivers, expect rates to jump significantly.

@Teo
How much did your premium increase when you added a teen driver? I’m preparing for that soon.

It doubled after the first teen and doubled again after the second. At one point, I was paying over $800 a month for four cars and three drivers.

USAA has been pretty reliable. I pay about $138 monthly for my 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Insurance rates depend heavily on where you live. Even with a perfect record, I pay similar rates to what you mentioned, just because of my location.

I’m in Houston and have a couple of tickets, but switching saved me over 50% compared to other quotes. It might help others, too.

I’m insuring my ‘89 Land Cruiser for $30 a month now, which is half of what I used to pay.

Where are you all getting insurance like that? I’m in Florida, and rates here are sky-high. I don’t qualify for USAA.

Why is it so expensive for some people?

It’s probably because they live in Houston.

So many people here don’t realize insurance rates vary by location. It’s a huge factor.
