Fair price for this car with a dent… what do y'all think?

I’m thinking about buying this car, but it’s got a dent and I’m not sure if the price they’re asking is fair.

Looking for some advice from you all! What’s a fair price, considering the condition?

Right now, new cars seem to be the cheaper option. I just bought a 2024 SE for over $25K plus taxes and fees, but I did get a $1,800 discount through TrueCar.

That price sounds high to me. I got a 2022 Corolla LE with 30k miles for $20k. I even managed to negotiate lower because they didn’t mention in the listing that a part had been replaced after a minor accident. Use anything like that to your advantage.

I paid $17k for a 2020 Corolla SE with 35k miles in 2022. It had some minor wear (like a spot on the steering wheel and a small hole near the brake pedal from the previous owner), but it’s been a solid car since. Maybe I got lucky, but I think you could find a better deal.

If you can get a good interest rate, buying a newer model might not cost much more than a used one.

20k seems a bit high. I bought my 2020 model for $19.5k in 2021, and it only had 13k miles and was in perfect shape. Unless you’re buying in a high-price area like Miami, I’d say negotiate lower.

We’d need more info to say if the price is fair. What’s the year, mileage, accident history, and number of owners? Without those details, KBB or a simple Google search might give you a better idea than random forum folks.

@Harper
I did mention more details in another comment. It’s a 2021 with 30k miles, listed at 20k. Still, I got some good feedback from people here today.

20k for a 2021? Nah, I’d say that’s too high.

Gotcha. Just keep in mind that car value varies a lot based on the vehicle’s history and condition, which can impact the price.

Have you driven it yet? It might look cool, but it rides rough with that sport-tuned suspension and bigger rims.

What would you suggest for someone looking at a used Corolla?

@ROZZY
Go with the LE. It has 15-inch wheels, which help with fuel efficiency and make for a smoother ride. Plus, LE drivers usually take better care of their cars compared to SE drivers.

I’m planning to test drive it soon. Is it really that different from the 2016 Sport Plus model?

@trecy
Yeah, they stiffened it up for better handling, but it makes daily driving rougher. It’s a good-looking car, but definitely test it out first to see if you’re okay with the ride.

Thanks for the heads-up! That’s a bit disappointing, but I’ll see how it feels.

Is that a Nightshade edition? It really looks like one.

How are we supposed to say if it’s a fair price when you didn’t tell us the price?

My bad! The dealer wants 20k for it. Just wanted to see what others think is fair.

Got it. I paid $19,800 for a brand-new 2021 LE. I’d say 18k tops for yours.
