Try a test run: pack up your vacation gear and see if it fits in the Highlander. If it’s tight, go for the GH.
I have a 2023 Highlander and am looking to trade for a GH simply for the usable third row. With captain’s chairs, it feels more like an SUV for 4 people and a big trunk.
I prefer my wife’s Subaru Ascent to the Highlander. Feels like a better choice overall.
Go big! I’m a mother of 4, grandmother of 4, great-grandmother of 2, and I’d say go for the Grand Highlander.
Doesn’t really matter—who’s paying for it? That’s the real question.
Recently got a Highlander and I’m very happy with the size.
We had a 2013 Highlander, which was perfect as our kids grew up. Just upgraded to a 2024 hybrid and it’s still great for road trips with three teens.
Just got an ’08 AWD Sienna. Very practical for family use.
Owned two Highlanders and liked them, but ultimately went with a RAV4 Prime for better efficiency and power. The third row was rarely used.
For 90% of the time, our Highlander works great, but we struggle with the third row when we have grandparents or extra kids. Considering moving up to the Lexus TX for better space.
If you’re planning on more kids or have dogs, the Grand is a better fit. Otherwise, the regular Highlander should be fine.
We have a Highlander, but if we’re taking more than just a stroller, it gets tight. For transporting their friends or extra gear, you’ll need the third row up, which eats into trunk space.
I miss my van! Went from a van to a Highlander, and honestly, I’d recommend the Grand Highlander if space is a priority.
I wouldn’t recommend it; it’s still too small. Go for a Sienna or larger SUV.
Have you thought about the Sienna?
Our family of 4 has done well with the regular Highlander, but we’d love a GH for more room in the third row when we have grandparents or extra kids.
With a regular Highlander, we managed trips with my tall son, mom in the second row, and toddler in the third row. Still had trunk room for luggage.
I have the GH with four kids. Traded a RAV4 for it, and I don’t think the Highlander has much more cargo space than a CR-V or RAV4.
Our 2019 Highlander XLE has been perfect for our family of 4. The captain’s chairs keep the kids separated on long trips, and the size is just right.
The Highlander can hold up to 8 with a second-row bench seat. We have a 2023 XLE hybrid AWD and love it for space and fuel efficiency.
