Crazy what 8 years of work can turn into.
I actually liked the black version more
Looks great.
Wow, this is wild. Got a list of mods?

Pretty much everything’s changed. Only original parts are the shell, gas tank, and rear subframe. It’s now a full-on race build.
Main stuff:
- Forged engine built for 600whp, upgraded oil and cooling systems
- Equal-length headers, external wastegate with liquid cooling, custom exhaust
- High performance fuel setup: surge tank, pumps, lines, rails
- S209 STI steering rack and 2014 STI column, using a Volvo electric pump
- BMW MK60 race ABS with custom wiring and lines
- Haltech control systems: R3 VCU, PD16, ic7 Dash, keypad, sensors, all custom-wired
- AP Racing brakes in front, STI setup in back with race pads
- FEAL custom coilovers for track use
- STI front and rear suspension parts, including axles and knuckles
- 6-speed from 07 STI with active diff control, solid mounts, etc
- Rear diff with Cusco LSD, all STI parts
- Carbon sunroof delete panel
- Lifeline fire system, Racetech seat, Sparco harness
There’s more, but those are the highlights. Learned a ton and spent way too much money.
@Onyx
That’s nuts! I’m just starting my STI project with a stock 99 RA. I’ve done years of work on NA Subarus, but this is only my second turbo one. Your build is really motivating — and yeah, looks like you had to pick up a lot of new skills. Also wild how many parts came from different cars. Serious work here.
@Wren
Yeah, I planned for 6 months, it ended up taking 2.5 years. I had to learn a lot — building engines, custom fuel systems, wiring, machining, brake lines, fabrication, and more.
Not many folks realize the 05-09 Legacy/Outback shares its chassis with the 08+ WRX/STI (and the BRZ is based on that too). You can bolt on most STI parts, except for the rear subframe and suspension which are specific to the Legacy/Outback.
@Onyx
Yeah that makes sense. I’ve noticed lots of GD parts fit my GC8 and GF4 too. Good to know for Legacy owners — makes upgrades a bit easier. I always joke that these cars are like Legos
This is really cool!
Honestly, I liked it better before.

Did you see the tires, seat, and cage though? At first I wasn’t sure either, but then I realized the person who built it is serious.
@Whit
Yeah, it’s fully gutted and caged for track racing only.

I get the look might not be for everyone, maybe the colors or stripes aren’t your thing, but stock ones are just plain cereal boxes. And hey, cereal still sells… because some people like plain. Cheers.
@Remington
Plain cereal boxes don’t make great track cars though
Got any info on your brake cooling setup?
Did you build it yourself or use a kit?

I used vents from a 2008 STI bumper and cut into my Outback bumper to make them fit.
At first I thought it was just another car… then I saw the tires, seat, and cage.
Yeah, you’re serious

It’s a dedicated race car now. It’ll be racing in the Gridlife Touring Cup series.
@Onyx
Love it. Who says wagons can’t be fun and fast?

This build is kind of a secret weapon. The 05–09 Legacy/Outback chassis is actually really solid, and STI parts swap over pretty easily. When it was just mildly built, it was winning autocross events. Then I figured… why not go full race car?
