Front driveshaft removal - roll back

I’m currently rebuilding my front knuckles on my 80 series, and I need to remove the front diff and drive shaft to clean out the axle housing and get the damn axle guide ring out cause it’s fallen. My question is this: I’m not working on perfectly level ground, and the front is on jack stands, but will removing the front drive shaft cause the truck to roll back at all? Obviously safety is my biggest concern, and I don’t want to remove the driveshaft and have the truck roll, the front fall off the jacks and onto me. I’m just not well educated on where the tension is that’s currently keeping the truck from rolling, and I don’t want to risk anything. Back wheels are chocked, but a 1-2" roll back obviously could kill me, so just wondering if the front driveshaft is keeping the truck in place currently. Thanks for the help

The truck won’t roll, but I always set a block of some sort on the back wheels and lock that e-brake down. Should be good after that, just make sure your jack stands are secure.

Ok great. It’s been on the jacks for two weeks now lol so definitely secure. Just don’t want to risk anything if there’s potential to roll. Will obviously put tires underneath also.

Yeah you’ll be fine. I’ve taken mine off recently and it’s no big deal. Mark the shaft with a paint marker on every joint so it goes back in the same exact place.

Ya that’s what I’ve read. Thanks.

Ebrake plus chocks and I always put the tire under the front axle just in case. Belt and suspenders.

Definitely will have the tire under the axle. E brake would be on if it worked .

Are the jack stands on the axle? I might move them to the frame if it was me, but really you should be fine.

They are under the axle. I might stick another set right under the frame as a safety measure.
