So I was in a hit-and-run the other day. A big Dodge truck slammed into me from the left lane, which forced me into the curb on my right. Luckily, I didn’t lose control—major props to Toyota for that one.
The guy took off, and once I realized what was happening, I chased him for about a mile while calling 911 to report his plates. Looking back, probably not the best idea… I wouldn’t recommend it. I already knew where I’d stop if he kept going, but still, not worth the risk.
Anyway, the good news is that his insurance took full liability. The bad news? My car now pulls to the left. When I take it to Caliber Collision, do I need to specifically ask them to check for bent components like tie rods and control arms, or is that something they normally inspect? I know the alignment is definitely messed up, but I don’t want them to just adjust it and ignore any underlying damage.
This is my first (and hopefully last) accident, so I have no idea what to expect. Any advice would be appreciated.
Oh, and this was in my practically new 2024 Camry SE that I bought in December. After this whole experience, I’m even more impressed with how well it held up. It took the hit, handled the impact, and still had enough power to chase down a much bigger vehicle. Safe to say, I’m a Toyota owner for life now.
Edit:
After this incident, I got a dashcam. Highly recommend it. The other guy straight-up lied to the police, and it was a sickening feeling having to rely on just my word against his. Don’t wait until something happens—get one now.
