Got the engine recall letter today… anyone else?

I received the notice in the mail about the 2022 Tundra engine recall. It says they’ll replace the entire engine for free. Has anyone gone through this process already?

The letter says the dealer will order the engine, which could take a few days, and then I bring my truck in. They’ll provide a loaner during the repair. The dealership mentioned they need to inspect it first to figure out what parts to order, but I thought it was just a new engine? What’s your experience?

Mine is in the shop for it now.

I dropped mine off last month after getting the notice. They gave me a loaner Tundra to drive until the job is done. My truck was running fine when I brought it in.

I’ve read about it, and it seems like a smooth process. I just got a 2025 Tundra and love it. Wouldn’t want another truck.

Congrats on the 2025! My 2023 has been great too. If Toyota ends up replacing my engine, that’s fine with me. The truck’s been running perfectly.

Same here. Loving my 2025 so far!

Did your truck show up on the Toyota recall site before you got the letter? Mine isn’t showing anything yet.

The dealership has to follow Toyota’s rules, or they won’t get paid. Toyota is handling this well—giving you a new engine and a loaner car for free. That’s a huge repair that would cost a lot out of pocket.

The dealer needs to verify your VIN in person. After that, they’ll start the process to get the engine shipped.

Wait, I have to go to the dealership just to get this started? That’s over an hour away for me!

You might be able to call and start the process. They should have your info in the system.

Honestly, I want to keep running my current engine as long as possible. The more miles I get out of this one, the longer my new one will last.

@AlexJordan1
Same here. My plan was to run it to 200,000 miles before swapping.

Are they recalling all trucks or just the ones with issues?

It’s all trucks within a specific VIN range. Right now, it’s just 2022-2023 models, no hybrids.

Hybrids aren’t included because they still have power assist if the engine dies. There’s a warranty extension for hybrids, though.

Does anyone know if the replacement includes turbos or just the engine block?

You’re right, it’s a whole new engine. Don’t let the dealership order just parts. Mine is in the process now, and they said it takes about three days from start to finish. They provided a rental car too.

@Keir
Dealers don’t reuse parts. Everything is new, including seals and gaskets.

What I meant was that dealerships used to order parts to fix engines instead of replacing the entire block. Now it’s a full replacement.
