I’ve been driving my rolla since I got it brand new back in 2013. It now has 172,000 miles on it, and I’ve never touched the rear drums or shoes. I live in PA, so rust is always around here. I’m thinking of replacing them and maybe bleeding the line too since it would be easier to do it all at once. Has anyone here replaced theirs? How many miles were you at, and what made you decide it was time to change them? I’m not really sure what to look or listen for when they start going bad.
You should first get them checked during a basic service to see how much material is left. 172k miles is a lot, but if you don’t drive fast or brake hard, they can last longer. If you hear grinding or loud noises, that’s a big sign they’re worn out. Rust can also mess with the parts inside the drum, so cleaning and oiling those areas helps too.
