How do I get the power gauge to show up in the 2025 XSE HUD?

I’m trying to figure out how to get the charge/eco/power gauge to replace the adaptive cruise distance display in the HUD. I’ve checked every HUD setting and anything else I could find. The manual only says this:

The Hybrid System Indicator or tachometer will show when:

  • Driving support info isn’t being displayed.
  • You’re not in Sport mode.
  • The HUD is set to Full mode.

The tachometer shows when:

  • Driving support info isn’t being displayed.
  • You are in Sport mode.
  • The HUD is set to Full mode.

This doesn’t make any sense to me. I know it’s possible because when I start the car, the gauge pops up on the HUD for a few seconds before everything fully loads. Anyone know how to actually make it stay there?

I gave it a try, but no dice. When I switch to regular cruise control, it still shows those adaptive cruise bars, even though it doesn’t adjust distance anymore. I must be doing something wrong.

Edit: I figured it out. Besides putting it in regular cruise mode, you also have to go into settings and turn off Lane Departure Alert (LDA). Honestly, this setup is ridiculous. Why not have a direct toggle for the gauge instead of making it depend on a bunch of random settings working together? Why can’t I have the gauge with adaptive cruise? Probably not going to use it much now, since it’s tied to regular cruise only.

This is my first Toyota and I’m not impressed with their tech so far.

@Vale
It’s the button labeled MODE. Press it once and it’ll show the current cruise mode (usually adaptive), then press it again to switch to regular. You’ll get a message saying you can set a speed now, and the HUD should update.

@Vale
Thank you soooo much! I’m going to try this right away. How did you figure this out?

I just messed around with all the settings. First thing I did when I got home was turn off all the assist features that didn’t light up a warning. Then I started figuring out how the HUD worked. Once I had everything else off, I realized cruise control was the last thing stopping the gauge from showing up. I actually turned the HUD off at first because it annoyed me that the gauge didn’t show on startup. It’s kind of a pain, yeah, but I still love the car overall. I don’t really miss the gauge anymore.
