How Can I Replace the Catalytic Converter Manifold on a 2007 V6 Camry?

Hi everyone, I joined this forum 5 years ago when we bought our '07 V6 Camry, which now has 90k miles.

The check engine light came on today, and the dealer says the catalytic converter manifold needs replacing, costing $1100.

I was recently rear-ended about 2-3 weeks ago, causing significant damage to the rear end (around $6500 worth). The car has been driving fine since the accident.

Additionally, about 20k miles ago, I had a burst oil pipe (I didn’t receive a recall notice), which required extensive engine cleaning. The car has been driving fine since then as well.

Could the recent accident or oil leak be related to the current issue? I’m looking for someone to help cover the costs.

It’s unlikely that the recent accident is related to the issue. The manifold that needs replacing is likely the front one (Bank 2).

Be prepared for this to be a major hassle. The cost of $1100 might seem high, but it could be justified by the labor involved.

Bank 2 is on the radiator side and is a difficult spot. If you’re experiencing A/F sensor fluctuations, it’s likely an issue with the sensor itself. Have you tried replacing the O2 sensor? A dead sensor usually indicates that it’s not just overly sensitive. Typically, a failed catalytic converter will show high readings rather than consistent ones and should still have some variation. It’s unlikely that the cat is completely failed to the point of a flat-line reading.

Additionally, the P0504 code usually relates to brake switch issues affecting cruise control. Do your cruise control, ABS, and brake lights function properly? I recommend starting with a new O2 sensor and clearing the code.

The Denso 234-4260 is the correct sensor for your 2GR-FE engine.

Replacing the pipe alone won’t resolve the issue.
