I’m considering using a Toyota plant employee discount and was wondering how it works. How much of a discount do employees and their families get? Does it change depending on the model?
Are you talking about the discount for Toyota plant employees or for someone working at a Toyota dealership?
Toyota plant employees and their immediate family usually get Invoice - Holdback - $1390, which means a much bigger discount compared to MSRP.
@Sai
This is the plant discount I’m asking about. So basically, I’d be paying $1390 under the invoice price the dealer paid to Toyota? Or am I completely misunderstanding? (Probably am.)

Your relative needs to get the official form from their HR office at the plant. It has instructions for the dealer that they have to follow. It will clearly state that the price is invoice minus holdback minus rebate. It’s pretty straightforward.
@Sai
They have the form, but I only glanced at it. It was several pages stapled together, and I didn’t have time to go through it. I’m planning to grab it tomorrow and read through it properly.

Sounds good. Do you live near a Toyota plant? If you’re far from one, some dealers might not be as familiar with the program. I’m close to the San Antonio TMMTX plant, so I’ve done this a lot.
@Sai
Yeah, the plant is one of the biggest employers in my area. Pretty sure the dealer I’m looking at knows how this works.
@Sai
Quick question: I heard the discount changes from month to month. I noticed the difference between 2018 and 2019 Corolla pricing was over $1,000. If I wait until the 2019 Tacomas arrive, will the discount on 2018 models increase?
@Darin
Nope. You’re lucky there’s even a rebate on Tacomas.

The discount applies to the invoice price, which is what the dealer originally paid to Toyota.
Toyota employee pricing (at least in my area) works like this: invoice price minus holdback, reserve, and ppo. There’s usually a rebate that varies by model. You can’t stack this with regular customer rebates or special financing rates, but you can combine it with college grad and military discounts.
Does the plant employee discount only apply to immediate family, or do in-laws qualify too?
$1200 off MSRP? That’s not a great deal… at least not in Texas. I bought one a few months ago for a better price. Check out tacomaworld.com—there’s a forum where people share what they paid.

Found it, thanks!
If you contact the internet sales team at a few dealerships, you can probably get $4,000 off MSRP pretty easily—unless you’re looking at a TRD Pro.
How much are you looking to pay? Figure that out first, then make an offer. If they say no, reconsider.

Did you even read the post? OP is asking about the employee discount from Toyota, not negotiating with a dealer.
