It’s mounted above the fuel, but it draws from the lowest point.

If it’s always pulling from the bottom, it should make no difference if the tank is full or low.

The reserve exists so you have enough to get to a gas station. Cars have fuel filters for a reason.

No need to shame someone for asking a question.
Is this why the gas pump stops before hitting 10 gallons? I was confused why it shuts off early.

Yeah, that’s because of the reserve.
Here are my previous fill-ups in gallons:
- 8.9 (1 mile remaining)
- 8.9 (1 mile remaining)
- 7.1 (79 miles remaining)
- 8.9 (1 mile remaining)
- 8.5 (20 miles remaining)
- 7.3 (61 miles remaining)
I get between 40-50 mpg, so with 1.7 gallons left when empty, that’s at least 70 miles.
My dad has driven Toyotas for 20 years and says he comfortably drives 50 miles after the light comes on.
@Amar
Wow, so you go through 9 gallons before your gas light even turns on? What model do you have?

Hybrid XSE, got it in October. It’s at about 4,500 miles now.
The trip computer gets more accurate after about 1-2k miles.
@Amar
Good to know! Mine only has 1.5k miles so I guess it’s still learning.
