How often do you all change your oil?

Hey everyone! Hope you’re all doing well. Quick question—how often do you change your oil? I bought my 2023 4Runner brand new and the dealer said I could wait until 10,000 miles since they use synthetic. But then I saw a Car Care Nut video saying every 5,000 is better. I also watched an interview with the guy who owns the million-mile Tundra, and he said he does his every 10–12k. Just wondering what everyone here does?

It’s every 10k when the dealer is paying for it and 5k when you’re paying for it.

Lol you are correct :joy:

Oil is cheap, so I stick to the 5k or 6-month rule. Costco has good prices or just grab some from Walmart.

I drive a ‘98 3rd gen and change it every 6,000 miles with high mileage synthetic. Never had issues.

I do oil changes every 5k. Check the maintenance manual in your glove box—Toyota says 10k for normal driving, but if you tow, offroad, or sit in traffic often, they recommend 5k.

Every 5k. Even synthetic can get sludgy by 10k. Check out The Car Care Nut on YouTube—he’s a Toyota master tech.

5k.

I do 10k. Mostly highway miles and light loads. Toyota wouldn’t risk their reputation on bad info. I rotate tires at 2,500 and 7,500 too.

We stick to every 5k. Worth it, even when the dealer isn’t paying.

I reset trip A every time and change oil at 5–5.5k. I agree—Toyota wouldn’t say 10k if it wasn’t tested. 5–6k is just extra peace of mind. New oil, filter, and crush washer are cheap insurance. Don’t forget the Toyota filter housing tool.

I do 5k. Trying to get mine to 500k miles.

I’m guessing the Tundra guy does tons of highway miles—10k makes more sense in that case. But for regular or stop-and-go driving, the oil wears out faster.
