3 inches of snow? That’s rare for Houston. Stay safe and warm .

In NW Florida we got about 7 to 8 inches recently. It was crazy.
Looks like you handled that snow like a pro!
If anyone’s wondering, I’ve been driving a FWD in the Midwest with stock Bridgestone LS100s, and it’s handled snow just fine. I wanted AWD but ended up with FWD, and I haven’t had any trouble.

AWD can feel unnecessary in most situations unless you’re dealing with extreme weather.
@ToyoLeez
That’s not entirely true. AWD is great for more than snow—it’s helpful in rain and even on dry roads. Back in high school, there was this sharp turn on a steep hill where cars would often get stuck. AWD was a lifesaver there.
@Devlin
I still think AWD is overkill for rain. I live in a snowy area, and it’s not going to make a big difference unless you’re driving recklessly.

I got an FWD XLE recently, and we had a snowstorm the next day. It handled hills and snow perfectly. It was a pleasant surprise.
You might laugh, but the city is shutting down for two days because of just 3 inches of snow. We don’t have the equipment to deal with it.

Yeah, without snow tires or proper equipment, I wouldn’t risk driving either.
Coming from Canada, this amount of snow seems like nothing. But I get it—different places, different challenges.
Houston really does shut down fast, doesn’t it?
None of our cars are AWD, and we’ve never had any major problems. Our vehicles are a 2015 Sienna, a 2016 RAV4, and a 2011 Lexus ES350.

You’ll probably be fine unless you’re dealing with something like 10 inches of snow.
Even a FWD Camry could probably handle this little snow just fine. But I’ve got to say, AWD is super helpful here in Utah with our snowstorms.
Living in South Jersey, we get plenty of snow. I wish we had AWD, but we got a good deal on our car, so we’re making do.

A good set of winter tires will make a huge difference. Sometimes that’s more important than AWD.
@DukeJames4
Exactly. AWD helps with moving, but everyone still has the same brakes. Tires are key.

True. Can’t stress that enough.
