ICS malfunction on my 2018 Camry XSE… anyone else dealing with this?

Hi all, a few days ago, I started getting a message on my 2018 Camry XSE saying the ICS (Intelligent Clearance Sonar) is malfunctioning and to visit the dealer. Both the ICS and parking assist features have stopped working. The car used to beep when I got close to my garage, but now it doesn’t do that anymore. Everything else in the car seems fine.

I’ve booked an appointment with the dealer, but my warranty ended at 60,000km and I’m already at 70,000km, so I’ll have to pay for the diagnostics and any repairs. I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and found a solution?

If it turns out one of the sensors is defective, I saw a replacement part online for about $200. Has anyone replaced the sensors themselves? Any tips on the process would be great. Thanks in advance!

Try cleaning the Toyota badge on the front bumper because the radar sits behind it. Also, make sure the windshield is clear in front of the camera. It might help fix it. Let us know if it works.

Thanks for the suggestion. The issue I’m having seems to be with the ICS sensors, which are the small black sensors on the bumper. I think the radar behind the badge is for the cruise control, and that’s working fine. I cleaned the windshield, the badge, and the sensors, but the problem is still there.

Okay, check the manual on page 325. It might be that the ICS is turned off. Also, page 330 shows how to enable it. You could try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to reset the system. After reconnecting, you might need to drive at 22mph or more for about 5 seconds to reinitialize it. See page 333 for details.

@Dustin
I’ll give the battery reset a try today. The settings look fine, but it’s worth a shot. Thanks for the tip!

Unfortunately, unplugging the battery didn’t help. The ICS malfunction is still showing up. Looks like it could be a sensor problem after all.

@Ripley
That’s a bummer… definitely take it to the dealer then. The OBD scan might give a clearer picture. Sometimes, it could be a loose connection or a failed module like the BCM. Let us know what you find out.

@Dustin
Will do. My appointment is on Tuesday. Thanks for the suggestions!

Hey, did you ever get this fixed? I’m having the same issue and Toyota hasn’t been able to sort it out. Feel free to DM me if you can share any details.

@Koa
No luck on my end either, dealing with the same problem here. Any updates from you?

Maybe we’re all just unlucky… it seems like a pretty common issue. Let’s hope someone finds a solid fix soon.

Any update on this? I’ve been having the same issue for almost a year now, and it comes and goes randomly.

I never ended up fixing it. I’ve just been driving with the ICS and parking assist turned off for a couple of years now. If I ever have some extra cash, I might get it looked at.
