If your steering wheel shakes when braking… hear me out

Not a gearhead at all, but my mechanic said 4Runner brakes are kind of small for the weight of the truck. I upgraded to ‘performance’ brakes and haven’t had issues in 2 years. Just sharing what worked for me.

@Amar
Totally get it. My post is mostly for folks who don’t want to drop a ton of cash. Checking the pads is cheap and might solve the problem without replacing anything major.

Fair enough—take it or leave it kind of thing.

Nope. It’s the camshaft. Tons of threads on this. If your steering wheel shakes between 55–65mph, it’s that. I followed advice from other forums and it fixed it completely. Even the 4x4 shop knew exactly what I was talking about. Cheap fix too.

Edit: I’m shocked how many people still don’t know about this. I’d bet my 4Runner on it.

@Misha
That’s not what I’m talking about though—I mean shaking or pulsation while braking, not while cruising at a certain speed. Still, I’ll look into the camshaft thing, that’s interesting. Thanks!
