Is $7,850 fair for a used 100k mile engine 2015 Prius install?

Never take your vehicle to the dealership for out-of-warranty work. That price is ridiculous.

Damn, how much is a whole Prius with 100k miles?

I just paid $4,000 for my 2015 Prius II with 238,000 miles.

Around $13k, but you can probably find one for $10k if it’s been in a few accidents.

Maybe we’re missing something. What exactly happened to the engine?

It overheated, and they said it’s beyond repair.

Is it completely dead? I’m guessing it ran without oil and seized up. Overheating alone shouldn’t make it unrepairable.

@Stormy
The water pump stopped working, causing it to overheat. They said it warped something inside the engine, but didn’t give many details.

Yikes. My Gen2 had a recall in 2010 due to the water pumps overheating.

With that amount of money, you could buy a decent used Prius in my country.

No, that should be $5,500 or less, and you’d get an engine with around 65k miles from LKQ with a warranty.

Yeah, you’re getting ripped off, but that’s the kind of pricing dealers offer.

Absolutely not.

They should kiss you before that screwing. I’ve been a mobile mechanic for 30+ years.

It’s around $3k to $4k for a Prius engine install. My buddy just paid $1,800 last week for a rebuilt engine instead of a replacement in Washington.

Yeah, they’re popular with tuners. Like the mini Mark IV Supra. Solid block, and it can take a lot of boost.

What…?

A better deal exists. Go to your local hybrid repair shop and ask for their rates.
