Is the extended warranty for a used Tundra worth the money?

I’m thinking about buying a 2023 Tundra that has 65k miles on it. The truck is getting a new engine through the recall and has a clean history with regular service every 5k miles. It’s a higher trim model with AVS suspension.

I’ve been offered a 60-month/60,000-mile platinum warranty for $4,300. Do you think this is worth it? Repairs can get expensive, but I’m not sure if I should try to find a cheaper option since the truck is already out of factory warranty.

That price sounds way too high to me. I’ve seen similar warranties for about $1,500.

This is for a warranty after the factory one has expired, so the person who posted this can’t buy the Toyota-backed version. These warranties usually start the day you buy them and add mileage from there, so it’s 5 years or until the truck reaches 125,000 miles.

I personally wouldn’t pay that much for it, but I just wanted to explain how it works.

That makes sense now. Thanks for clearing that up.

Yeah, it would cover 5 years starting today and up to 125k miles. It doesn’t cover things like brakes or tires, but it does include all the expensive stuff like electronics and suspension.

I was quoted $3,200 for a 7-year/125,000-mile warranty on a 2022 loaded Platinum model with 23k miles. That was straight from a Toyota dealer.

That’s a lot of miles for a 2023. Maybe the warranty is a good idea if you plan on keeping it for a while.
