The police department had his phone because of the arrest. We never got it back after he passed. I’m okay with that, though.

I’m really sorry for your loss. Would it be okay if I asked why his phone was taken by the police? It seems like a serious offense. But once he passed, his belongings should be returned to family once the investigation is over.

It was a pretty serious situation. The police took both his phone and computer. I don’t want them back, especially after knowing what he was involved in. He was facing jail time and didn’t see a way out, which he mentioned in his note. We weren’t close, so it’s a bit of a complicated situation.
