I just wanted to share how great it is that Toyota now offers the GR Corolla with an automatic. I used to have an STI, but after an accident that messed up my knee, I can’t drive manual for long periods without pain. My fiancé is thinking of getting a minivan next, but with the GR Corolla now in automatic, I might be able to convince her to go for that in a couple of years after we get the minivan. lol

As someone who loves manual, I think this is a good move too. Accessibility matters. Fun cars shouldn’t be off-limits for people with physical issues.

Yeah, it’s great! With the 8-speed automatic, the GR Corolla and GR Yaris will be able to attract more buyers.

My wife is already considering the GR Yaris with the auto when it’s released. We checked out the GR Corolla too, but we like the GR Yaris more.

Sorry to disappoint, but the GR Yaris isn’t coming to the U.S. The normal Yaris isn’t sold here anymore, so making the GR Yaris would cost Toyota billions. For Americans, the GR Corolla is the closest option.

Yeah, the GR Corolla is the alternative to not having the GR Yaris in the U.S. I work at a Toyota site, and there’s no word about the GR Yaris coming here. They’d have to import it.

This will definitely boost sales and make it more likely for a second generation to come out with a manual option.

If automatic transmissions are good enough for Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, they should be good enough for you too. I know, I know, Toretto would probably disagree.

I’ve always thought that for a hot hatch, automatic should be an option. There are lots of people (like me) who want an automatic for a daily driver and a manual for their fun car on the weekend. And hot hatches are meant to be daily drivers, or I’d just go for a Miata or MR2.

They’re talking about the regular non-GR Corolla Hatchback with the 2.0L M20A-FKS. It had a 6-speed iMT until the GR version came out.

After 2022, only the GR had a manual.
