Just got myself a 3rd gen and I’m loving it

I’m planning to get it repainted and have the headlights restored in the next couple of months. In the meantime, I’ll be tackling some of the smaller issues—like replacing the CV axles, fixing whatever’s going on with the steering, and taking care of the brake pads, among other things.

I agree with that

Congrats! That’s a gorgeous car! I might be biased since I own an '05, but those 3rd gens are the best

Congrats! This car is gonna last you a long time

That’s what I hope for

I just got a 2008 touring model too. It was a bit worn but I’ve already done some upgrades. I got new front and rear bumpers painted and installed, a new passenger fender from a junkyard, and a new passenger headlight from eBay. Restored both and it’s already looking good. With 145k miles, it still rides like a dream. I bought a bunch of parts from Rock Auto for a comprehensive tune-up to keep it running long. Replaced valve cover gaskets, plugs, coils, O2 sensors, and there’s more to come

@Jason
What plugs and coils did you choose? I want to do the same but I’m worried about the back three. How much did everything cost?

I’ll tackle that once I figure out what spring weather is in New Jersey.

For anything Toyota, I only use Denso products.

I usually order from Rock Auto. Just a heads up, the coil connectors may break, so order some replacement harness connectors while you’re at it. I replaced the front three because they were broken, and I bet the rear three will be the same

@Jason
Can you share the part numbers for all three so I can find them easily? Thanks a lot. Also, I’m curious about those harness connectors

Is the paint worse than it looks in the pictures? If not, it looks great, I really like the color! Seems like just one quarter panel has a bit of peeling

The clear coat on the roof and hood is peeling, and there are quite a few small scratches all over. The last owner ran over some paint that splashed onto the driver’s side door, and the fender is down to the primer lol

@Vinnie
Sounds like it might be worth getting it repainted. If it’s been well kept and you continue that way, it’ll be on the road long enough for you to get your money’s worth

Nice ride! I just got mine too. I just wish there were aftermarket headlights available; I love how projectors look and how they spread light

Are there really no aftermarket options? I need to do a good restoration on mine as well. They always look fantastic, even if it’s just for a year before you need to do it again

@Wil
Not that I know of, I’ve looked but all I find is a kit to make one
