Keep hands on wheel alert keeps going off, what triggers it?

I have a 2018 Camry with 61,000 miles, all maintenance done on time. Lately, I keep getting the ‘keep hands on wheel’ alert once or twice a week, even though my hands are always on the wheel. I sit close to the wheel because I’m short, so I literally have nowhere else to put them!

The alert flashes quickly and disappears, but I’m worried it could be a sensor issue. Could this cause the car to do something unexpected, like brake or take control at the wrong time?

Does anyone know what triggers this alert? Is there a way to turn it off? I’m hoping it’s something simple because I assume replacing this system would be expensive.

Are you drifting near the lane lines? If the car detects you touching the lane edges too often, it might trigger that alert. In some models, it also warns you to take a break if it thinks you’re getting tired.

Check your lane keep assist settings. If it’s set too high, it might be overly sensitive. I turned mine off because it kept trying to adjust my steering.

Is that a sensitivity setting? If so, does setting it lower make the alert happen less often?
