Peeling paint on my 2014 RAV4... dealership won't help

Not sure if this is the right place, but I have a 2014 RAV4 (white) and the paint is peeling badly. Took it to the dealership where I bought it, and they said it was a manufacturer issue, but I’d need a full repaint. They gave us a phone number to call and wished us luck. We called in December 2024, and they told us the recall had ended in June 2024. Basically, they refused to do anything.

Car still runs great—low mileage, no mechanical issues—but this paint problem is frustrating. Also, just got a recall notice about faulty battery cables that could catch fire. Called right away, and they said they didn’t have the parts yet, so we should just throw the recall away and wait for another notice. Not exactly reassuring…

No clue what to do about the paint, but I do know I won’t be buying another Toyota.

Yeah, Toyota paint issues are way too common. The Enhanced Customer Service campaign for that is over, so you’re probably out of luck unless you pay for it yourself. Also, paint defects don’t count as a recall since they’re not a safety issue (NHTSA only requires recalls for safety concerns). What’s the number on the battery cable recall?

@GregoryMesh3
The recall numbers are NHTSA 23V-734 and Toyota 23TA13.

That’s interesting—those parts should be available at most dealerships. Maybe try calling a different one.

Also, if you need replacements, here are the part numbers:

  • Battery Clamp Sub-Assembly: #74404-0R030
  • Battery Clamp Sub-Assembly (alternate): #74404-42190
  • Battery Tray: #74431-0R040

Might be worth checking with another dealer before giving up on it.
