Pour one out for my old ride…

RIP to a Gen 1 legend!

I’m still driving my 2002 Gen 1 at 145k miles, hoping to reach 200k to make the most out of the replacement hybrid battery I installed at 93k.

I’ve got a 2012 V with 178k miles, still on all original parts. I’m not the best owner though—oil changes every 25k, lifted 1.5 inches, and I use it as a work truck. If something big breaks, I’ll still fix it. The $5k I’d spend would save me $300 a month in car payments. If it keeps running for a year, it’s paid for itself again.

I had a 2001 in the same color.

The original boss Prius.

Why did they quote you so high? I’ve heard inverter repairs outside the dealer run between $500 and $800. Is it just because it’s a Gen 1?

I don’t think Priuses are meant to go past 60. I get nervous every time I take mine on the interstate.

My 2008 can hit 102 mph.

Same with the 2001 :joy:

I can easily hit 80 in eco mode on my Gen 3, but I don’t push it further. No need for a speeding ticket since I’m a gig driver.

I got mine up to 80 in my 2009. The brakes get scary though, especially at those speeds.

Can you swap the drivetrain from a Gen 1 into a Gen 2?

I doubt it. When I replaced the brake booster, the dealership had to program it for the ECU to recognize it. These cars have too much tech in them.

Maybe it was just time to let her go and grab something better.
