Should I go for the 2017 Lexus LS 460

Hello everyone First time posting here but I have been following for a while.

So far, I have only owned Subarus, but now I want something more luxurious. I’m tired of the cheap feel, the endless rattles, the bumpy ride, and worrying about engine issues. At almost 40, I want to switch things up and treat myself to a nicer car. Right now, I am stuck between the GS 350 and the LS 460.

The LS 460 sounds appealing since I have never had a V8 before, and a friend is encouraging me to go for the 2017 model. I think that might be the most reliable year for that engine because it was the newest version? I could be wrong, though.

From what I’ve found, the 4th gen GS 350 is also a strong option and might actually be the more dependable choice. A sportier V6 sounds nice, but having a big luxury V8 is also really tempting, so I’m torn. I’m not too worried about maintenance costs, but I want to avoid spending too much time in repair shops for unexpected issues.

I’d love to hear what you all think! Any advice would really help.

I have been a huge Lexus/Toyota SUV fan for 23 years, but I just bought a 2015 LS 460 F Sport Crafted Line from an auction that I will restore. It’s a different case than yours, but I’ve always wanted to try that car, and I found this one with only 60K miles and some minor front-end damage which I’m fixing myself for just over $12K so I couldn’t resist! Good luck with your search!

The GS is a solid car with very little maintenance concern. The LS is also great but tends to be more complicated and can be a bit expensive to repair - those repairs are rare but you will notice since it’s a luxury vehicle.

Driving the V8 is a pleasure but maintaining it can be a hassle.

The 3.5l V6 is almost perfect for balancing power, comfort, and reliability.

The more I read about it, the more I think the 3.5 V6 could be the right choice for me!

I have a 2015 GS 350 and I really enjoy it.

I can’t give an answer right now because I am also looking at Lexus after being a Subaru owner for a long time. I just want to join this discussion. My Subarus have been very reliable and low-maintenance, and I want to keep it that way.

@Rex
The LS460 is not the MOST reliable but it is still a Lexus

The 430 models are very robust

The GS models are also very strong.

I heard the 460 got reworked and fixed issues from the 2006-13 models. Anything made after that seems to be much better. I’ve wanted one for a while now.

The 2017 model is the best year for the LS.

Go for the GS 460. You get the sporty feel, and it’s a bit more affordable, plus that smooth V8 engine. It rides wonderfully, and realistically it will cost less to maintain and repair.

It would be easier to suggest if they weren’t so hard to find. My brother had one, and they are fantastic but the comfort and interior quality isn’t quite as good as the LS.

@Bran
You’re right; they are tough to come by. GS450h might be a challenge to find too, but it’s a good option. The LS is definitely more comfortable, but it’s pricier and less fun to drive.

They are very rare.
