Should I go for the hybrid version or not… what do you think…

Looking for some advice here… I’m thinking about getting a Rav4 but not sure if the hybrid is worth the extra cost… I drive a Prius right now and I’m used to getting over 50 miles per gallon… I know the Rav4 won’t match that but it’s still better than the regular version… Any thoughts or experiences… Thanks…

I drove a 2019 Hybrid for almost 3 years and a 2021 gas version for about 2 years… If you mostly drive on highways the fuel economy difference is small… The engines are pretty much the same… But if you’re in stop-and-go traffic the hybrid really shines… My fuel stats were… Hybrid 36.4 mpg… Gas 29.6 mpg… Hybrid pros… better fuel economy… quieter in town… smooth transmission… AC works on hybrid mode… more power… Hybrid cons… cablegate issue… ABS braking on rough roads… handling on rough roads… Gas pros… good highway fuel economy… better braking… no cablegate… cheaper… Gas cons… lower fuel economy… less smooth transmission… AC runs only on gas…

This is super helpful… Thanks…

I was curious about real-world Rav4 Hybrid mpg… Your average is the same as my Mazda3… 36.4… I’m broke so I won’t be buying one but it’s good to know…

I’ve had my hybrid for 3 months… Getting 39-40 mpg with mixed city and highway driving…

Hybrids tend to have fewer problems than regular engines… Most Toyotas are still running with their original batteries… The battery warranty is 10 years… In summer, fall, or spring we get 5.5 liters per 100km… In winter it’s around 7 liters… We paid $1300 extra for the hybrid… I’d go hybrid again… It drives better and feels worth the extra cost… No timing belt with the CVT which is nice…

@Smith
What does a CVT have to do with a timing belt… Newer Toyotas don’t have timing belts…

Yes… Go for it…

This makes me feel better… I just ordered a 2025 Rav4 Hybrid… It’s $3000 more here in Canada… Hoping it’s the right choice…

Regular hybrid or plugin… I was thinking about the plugin but living in an apartment makes it tricky… Does the regular hybrid have less power…

We switched from an 18 Kia Sportage to a 22 Rav Hybrid… Getting an extra 50 km per tank…

I have a hybrid Camry… Will always go hybrid from now on…

It depends on your driving conditions… City driving the hybrid is better… Highway driving the difference is small… In cold climates hybrids lose more mpg than gas… Also if you’re in an area with salted roads the hybrid might have corrosion issues…

@Orin
The corrosion issue only affected a small number of cars… They fixed it…

Toyota acknowledged it affected 2019-2021 Rav4s… Over 400k vehicles… They’re still updating the design… The current fix isn’t perfect…

@Orin
This is why I’m hesitant about hybrids… We use a lot of salt in Alberta winters…

The lawsuit started in Canada… It’s still a problem for many owners… Not worth the hassle until there’s a real solution…

@Orin
Agreed…

@Orin
Good to know about the corrosion… My Prius has been great in traffic… Getting 80+ mpg sometimes… How’s the Rav4 Hybrid in traffic…

I had a 2009 Prius before switching to a 22 Rav4 Hybrid… In Alaska the hybrid struggled in extreme cold… Took forever to defrost… My gas Rav4 handles the cold much better…
