Still driving my beater at 165k miles… anyone else hanging on to theirs?

I’ve got this old car pushing 165,000 miles and it’s still going strong. The outside looks fine but the inside’s pretty rough. Still, it runs great and I love how it drives, especially in the snow. Just wondering if others here are also keeping their old rides going?

We must have different ideas of what a beater is. That looks pretty nice to me!

The inside’s a mess though. Seriously.

Then fix it up a bit?

@Ameliascarlet
The car’s probably worth $3,000 tops. I only fix things that actually keep it running.

You’re still driving it, not selling it. You should treat yourself better.

@Brenner
Just to be clear, the steering wheel is falling apart, panels rattle all over, the stereo is trash, and I stopped worrying about cleaning it years ago. It’s not full of junk or anything, just worn out. I like it that way though—no extras, no nonsense. It’s fast, corners well, has a stick, and it’s super fun in the snow with AWD and snow tires.

@Ophelia
Steering wheel covers are cheap. That rattling sound might be a loose cross member in the door—easy to fix with a drill and a pop rivet. Just 20 minutes. Use the vacuums at a car wash too—they really work. You’d be surprised how much better it can look with a little cleanup. No need for that old bumper sticker that says ‘don’t laugh, it’s paid for’—your car’s better than that.

You should have a bit more pride in your car.

What’s your other vehicle?

Just a bunch of bikes.

I use my Impreza for grocery runs and ride my bike everywhere else. Works for me.

With views like that in your photo, I think your car will keep going just fine.

That car looks newer than anything I’ve driven in years.
