It’s all about supply and demand. Subaru has the supply, Toyota has the demand.
This definitely tells you something about the market.
My grandma bought both a Subaru and a Toyota at the same time. Three years later, the Subaru had lost much more value compared to the Toyota.

Not a fan of Subaru’s flat-4 engine. I don’t get why they didn’t go with a different powertrain for the 86/BRZ.

The flat-4 is a nod to Toyota’s first sports car, the 1965 Sports 800, which also had a Boxer engine. Plus, it helps give the 86/BRZ one of the lowest centers of gravity among production cars.
